Optimize in a better way!
Give People What They Want
People want lots of
(quality) information. They also want it to be
given to them in an
easy-to-read and natural manner. In fact, most
people who make their
first visit to a website tend to stay on the
home page for less than
one minute before wanting to explore other
pages in order to get
all the information they're looking for.
Optimize All of Your Pages - Not Just the Home Page
Even though it's most
likely that the home page of your website is
where most people will
first land when visiting your website, it
shouldn't be the only
page that's optimized. Since Google will look
at your website as a
whole, you're going to need to optimize the
whole site, not just
your home page.
Imagine going to a
website and reading the home page. You're
probably going to find
information that tells you what the website
is all about. Great! Now
imagine looking for more information while
you slowly come to the
conclusion that... there really isn't any.
What are you going to
do? If you're like most people, you're going
to leave that website
and look for another that will give you all
the information you
want/need.
Use Links to Build Your Page Ranks
Google loves links.
Remember, if it's important to Google, then it
should be important to
you, so try to use links often. When
creating links, you're
going to want to use them to take people to
other pages of your
website. This allows them to easily get more
information, which is
great, while also giving them a bit of a tour
of your website, which
is also great.
Take a few minutes to
look at some of the more prominent websites.
How are they using
links? Say the website is about pets and how
wonderful they are, and
they have a article on how to train your
dog in a week. The links
within that article should link to another
web page (within the
same website) that is relevant and thus adds
additional information
to the article. The links should not simply
point to their home
page, which (most likely) isn't going to lend
any additional
information to the article.
The thing to remember
here is that you want the links to link out
to lots of different
pages while making sure that it all makes
sense. Make sense? Just
remember, the more natural, the better.
Exception to the Rule
Not every single page is
going to need SEO. Sorry, did we just make
this a bit more
confusing? This exception applies to what are
called 'no follow'
pages. For example, your 'Contact Us' page can
be set up as a no follow
page because there is really no reason why
it needs to show up in
search results. As long as the link to this
page is placed often
throughout your website, it doesn't matter if
the search engines see
it.
Bottom Line
The majority of your
website pages should be optimized. This not
only lets your visitors
know that you really care about providing
them with the quality
information they want/need, when you optimize
most of your webpage's
you're telling Google that you're taking the
time to make your
website one that contains all the high-quality
information that people
want to find in a simple and efficient
manner.
